Anchor Texts: Psalm 121:1–6; 1 Chronicles 12:21–22
“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth…” – Psalm 121:1–2
“…they helped David against the band of the rovers: for they were all mighty men of valour, and were captains in the host. For at that time day by day there came to David to help him, until it was a great host, like the host of God.” – 1 Chronicles 12:21–22
Introduction
Beloved saints of God, in a time where many place their trust in systems, titles, wealth, and connections, the Spirit of God is calling us to a divine reminder:
MY HELP COMES FROM GOD!
David didn’t stop at the hills—he looked beyond the hills to the One who made them. Heaven is our source of supply. Help is not about where you are; it’s about Who you’re looking up to.
“When you look to God, you never look in vain.” – Charles Spurgeon
Understanding the Meaning of God’s Help
In biblical context, help means divine intervention, strength, sustenance, and support that surpasses human effort.
- Psalm 46:1 – “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
- Isaiah 41:10 – “Fear not… I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”
Two Foundational Questions About God’s Help
1. Who is my Helper?
- The Lord God Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth (Psalm 121:2)
- The Covenant-Keeping God who never sleeps (Psalm 121:3–4)
- Jehovah Sabaoth, the Lord of Hosts who commands angels on your behalf (2 Kings 6:16–17)
2. Why Do I Need His Help?
- Because the help of man is limited (Psalm 60:11)
- Because life is a battlefield, not a playground (Ephesians 6:12)
- Because divine help aligns us with prophetic purpose (1 Samuel 16:13; 1 Chronicles 12:22)
- Because without Him, we can do nothing (John 15:5)
- Because even the strongest man will fail without God (Jeremiah 17:5–7)
- Because every calling and every destiny requires supernatural assistance
